Sleeping outside in winter? For me personally, this is actually not an extraordinary event. On the contrary: I sleep outside on the terrace or in the garden for about two-thirds of the year. Be it alone or with my youngest daughter, who also enjoys experiencing the freshness of the night. We are usually faithfully accompanied by my dog Laika, for whom we prepare a place in the basket next to us.
Sleeping outside in winter
Last night I made myself comfortable outside again, despite temperatures below freezing. The cold doesn't play a big role here, by the way. What matters is the right setup. I cover the mattress with a fleece blanket. That way, you have a warming feeling right after getting into bed, despite the cold. I also cover the lush down-filled Plümo with a fleece blanket to retain heat. Despite the sub-zero temperatures, I was warm all night - even without thick socks. However, I usually wear a sleeping cap at such low temperatures, so that my upper mind also remains at temperature.
In contrast to outdoor sleeping facilities such as a sleeping pad the SkyHeia the advantage that, like a real bed, it has a distance to the floor. This prevents the cold of the ground from creeping into your body.
We constantly have new stories and information about sleeping outside for you. We won't send you emails with trivia, we promise.
I used last night to test the prototype of a new accessory for the SkyHeia: the exchange guard. A transparent film attached to the frame that also carries the SkyHeia's insect screen prevents moisture from condensing onto the bed, making the fabric feel uncomfortably damp in the morning. Last night I would have woken up with a thin crust of ice on the bed otherwise. Again, I don't mind much as long as it stays dry and warm under the covers, but the swap protection definitely makes my sleeping experience more pleasant.
Night is colder than outside
Sleeping amidst the elements makes the experience of nature even more intense. When you experience wind and weather, rain and snow, up close and personal and still stay comfortably warm and dry, it's super cozy. Outside, nature is running riot, but I lie comfortably in bed and can observe and feel the spectacle of nature directly, but still protected. The outdoor sleeping experience is even more intense than in dry and warm surroundings in the summer.
The SkyHeia arose from the need to be able to sleep outside as many nights of the year as possible. An accessory like the dew and rain protection will allow me and other fresh air fans to sleep even more nights in the middle of nature in the future.
I'm happy for that!
PS: The dew and rain cover is expected to go on sale in February 2022. But even without these accessories, sleeping outside in winter is a real pleasure. The the insect protection is already available in our online shop.
